What are smart meters?
“Smart meters” are wireless transmitter devices that enable PG&E to collect specific information about your electricity usage. PG&E hopes we will later buy devices that will allow the utility to remotely control our appliances under the guise of saving energy. With this setup, they would then know when we turn on the toaster, when we do our wash, when we even take a bath. They’re hoping we’ll do our wash after 11 pm to save a few dollars on the bill….
